Adult Formation Classes

Sunday 10am

CALMING YOUR ANXIOUS MIND………....St. Francis Hall

This offering provides an introduction to mindfulness meditation as a potential spiritual discipline for reducing stress, overcoming anxiety and facing fear in our lives.  Suggested reading will include Calming Your Anxious Mind by Jeffrey Brantley, M.D., but is not required.  The class will meet in the Yelverton room during the Sunday School hour.  All are welcome.

Facilitators:                   John Allin and Dan Woodliff

Note: This offering begins on March 30 and concludes on April 27.

EXPLORING OUR FAITH…………………..….The Chapel

During Easter season, we will explore the post-resurrection narratives in the Gospels.  What does “resurrection” mean?  What exactly happened to Jesus?  Who is the risen Jesus?  And how do we recognize him?  Bring your questions and your appetite for fellowship and discussion.

Facilitators:          Charles Jackson, Diana O'Toole, the Rev. Dr. Bryan Owen, and Stephen Stray.

THEOLOGY IN LITERATURE………………………..Lower Level Room 3

This will be a study of Wallace Stegner’s novel Crossing to Safety. Stegner, known as a passionate environmentalist, is also an elegant writer who, in this novel, examines friendship, marriage, and love entangled with control. Books are available in the St. Andrew’s Bookstore.

Facilitator:           Dot Kitchings

CLARE’S COMMON THREADS……...Room 28 in the Atrium

Needlework is the miracle of creating new dimensions from a strand of thread or yarn. Join us as we prayerfully knit our lives together in “Common Threads” and create prayer shawls, gifts for new babies, altar cloths, and many more icons of our life together.

Facilitator:            Susan Nix

LIVING THE QUESTIONS 2.0…...Yelverton Room

Living the Questions: Debunking the Rapture

Focus: "Failing to understand the message of hope offered in the Book of Revelation, many Christians have been misled by 19th century doomsayers and modern-day apocalyptic preachers who proclaim their vengeful god's impending extermination of the apostate masses.  Just what part of "love your enemies" doesn't their god understand?"

Facilitator: Mark Modak-Truran
